1. Open the Armadillo
You are prompted with a thing where you can choose
what kind of track you are making
So choose what kind of track you are making
for this tutorial i am using the National track i made in
Making A National
Displacement Map
2. After you choose the type of
track you want to create
it brings you to the the place where you Edit your Terrain Geometry
in here you can import your Displacement Map by
clicking Import Targa Height Map click it
when you click that it opens the Import Options
under Placement Options you can select Track or Perimeter
when Track is selected you can Import a Displacement
Map for the Center Tile of your track
and when Perimeter is selected you can Import Displacement Maps for
All the rest of the Tiles
all you really need is a Displacement Map for your Track
if you don't import any displacement maps it will be flat ground
3. make sure Track is selected and
click Import
now you get another window for you to find your displacement map
All you need to pay attention to in this is the middle (That is where
the files are displayed)
also under that it shows what drive your in
Right now i am in drive f:
if my displacement map was in drive C: all i would
do is click that golden arrow and click C:
if you don't understand the middle part read this
Use the 2 dots (..) to go Up a directory
that means if i am in F:\MotoMad2\TrackEditor and i double
clicked the 2 dots
it would take me to F:\MotoMad2
Those words you see in between brackets like [DispMaps] they are Folders
(Directories)
Now that you have found your Displacement Map
Click OPEN and it will show your Displacement map on
the screen
4. Now look back over to the Right of your screen
you see all the things Under the
Import Targa Height Map button
i will explain what all those mean
you can see a check box, you can Use Smooth
Filter or not.
The Smooth filter is for those tracks that are not too smooth
you can just click that button to make them smoother
I just leave it checked
under that you can see View Track and
View Perimeter
you can click one or the other to see your displacement
maps for them
That is all that really does
Under the View Perimeter you can see Displacement
Strength
depending on what the brightest color you have in your
Displacement Map
like if you were to have a really tall hill that was 200 - 200 - 200
and that is the tallest color on your track
then from 0 to 200 is what will be used
and 200 would equal 40.0 or whatever your displacement strength was
Below the Displacement Strength you can see Grid
Resolution
that is how big you want your track to be as in Length and Width
not height
i am not sure how this works as in the numbers
but 10.0 is a Pretty BIG track :) WIDE
ok finally Edge Smoothing Options
I always put this on 0
all this does is take your Perimeter Displacement Map
and
your Track Displacement Map and take the average height
of the edges of them
and take that and Gradient Fills that in on your track
how far the Gradient reaches depends on what number you put in
i use 0 because i don't want it to do that
