How to Render Textures With Bryce

Click on these to go Directly to that Step

Back to Tutorials

In this tutorial i will be using the MetaCreations Bryce 4.0

Step 1
Setting up for Rendering

Step 1 Part 1

Open Bryce

go to File > New (Ctrl+N)

Your Document Setup should look like this

i use 980X980 use what you think is best
if your not sure use this Resolution

You dont have to have Contrain Proportions on it doesn't matter
but if you do make sure that both of the numbers are the same
like mine is 4 : 4

Anti Aliasing is set to Superfine that will make the render take longer
But it will make it look better

If you want to know exactly how long it took to render your
track after you render it then turn Report Render Time on

That is all now click the Check mark at the way bottom right  to make a New Document

Step 1 Part 2
Find these on the very right of your window
they don't appear until your mouse is over them

the 2nd one from the top is a good one i will show you how to use later when we render
if you want to see your document full screen then click the 3rd one down

the 4th one down changes what is behind your objects

the 2nd one from the bottom you can change your Wireframe resolution
(If you have a slow computer dont change this)

the bottom one toggles between
wireframe
, your last rendered image, and wireframe with the last rendered image

you dont really need to know any other of the tools for rendering tracks
Step 1 Part 3

Now that you have all this in your brain go to the Top Left of your screen and go to the Create Terrain button
It is the one that looks like a dirt mountain (in this pic I changed the color of it to Red and put a red outline around it)

now you will see an red wireframe object that looks like that button

Now you are Ready to Import your Displacement Map

Step 2
Importing Your Displacement Map

Step 2 Part 1

First go to the make sure the object is Red (Selected)

when you have it selected you will see
6 squares next to your object

you will only need the bottom 2
M and E

the E stands for Edit the Object
this is the button you will use to apply your displacement map with

the M stands for Edit the Material
this is the button you will use to apply your textures

First click the E
the screen will be black and you will see a bunch of weird stuff

ok now all you need to do is click Picture under Eroded and
find your Displacement Map

when you find it you may notice it is a little to high
all you do to fix this is click and hold the Raise/Lower button and drag it to the
Left to Raise your jumps and to the Right to Lower them

this will not change in the 3D View until you let go of the mouse button
the picture you see on the right is your displacement map
Just watch that when you are adjusting the Height
make it look like yours looked in the program u used to make your disp (Brightness)

Now push the Check mark (Bottom Right)
cause your done with this step

Go to Steps 3 & 4
