Back to Tutorials

Back to Steps 1 & 2

In this tutorial i will be using the MetaCreations Bryce 4.0

Step 3
Importing Your Texture

Step 3 Part 1

First what you need to do is make sure your object is selected
and you will see the 6 buttons again

Click the M this time to Edit the Material

you will see a new thing pop up like when you click the Edit Object button

now what you need to do is go to the Top Right of the screen you will
see a little square with 3 pictures in it

First Click the P you will see a weird guy pop up
now click the button directly above it

this will pop up a window where you can import your texture

First click the little white Circle on top of each of the pictures
and delete those pics
Now click load (above one of them)
and find your .tga Texture

There are a few other ways to do this I usually use this method
Click the Check mark in both windows to apply your texture

Step 4
Rendering Your Texture

Step 4 Part 1

First what you need to do is take out the atmosphere

to do this go to the Sky & Fog button (on the top of your screen)
now a new thing will show under that
click the Cloud with the Rainbo in it

now another thing will pop up
Go through all the things at the top Turn off every thing
Like in Cloud Cover Stratus might be turned on so Turn that off
or in Atmosphere you may have to turn off Haze

Leave shadow on (adjust that to how Intense you want your shadows to be)

Now to the right of the window you can see a square with a sphere in it

click on the Triangle on the right of it
now a new window will pop up you can choose what sky you want

you do not want any sky
so choose either White or Black depending on
how light or dark your textures are
if they are dark choose White if they are
Light choose Black
so you can tell the difference between your track and the outer edge of the picture

Now the ball that looks like an eye you can move around to change the
direction of where the sun is comming from

also you can change it with Azimuth (direction it is coming from) and
Altitude (How high in the air it is)

Now when you return to your track
you see there is an object below it
it is a plane
click on it and press Delete
you dont need that

Now that you have done all this it is time to Render
First you need to change to Top view
do this by clicking in the top left of the window
Under where you see a Little picture of your track
you will see a thing that looks like a mountain

click and hold that and move it to the right or left until you see this

ok now you see the top of your track but it is not zoomed in enough
now what you do is go to the Bottom Right of the screen and
Under the tools i showed you before there will be 2 magnifying glasses
one with a plus sign (+) and one with a Minus Sign (-) and a hand
click and hold the on the plus sign (+) and move the mouse to the Right
Watch the little picture of your track till you see the left and right edges of it
getting very close to the edges
Like this

you see the top and bottom are not in there this is not a bad thing
make sure the left and right edges dont leave this box (make it like i have it)

Now click the Render Button to render your track
This is at the bottom of this column it is the big one in the middle

This may take a VERY long time depending on how fast your computer is

just leave the computer for a while don't work on other stuff cause then it wont render
and just let it render for a while this could take 3hrs or more But it does a nice job
it took about 2 1/2 hours with my old comp 233mhz ehhe
Now on my 750 it takes about 11 min

Ok now you are done rendering
go to File Export Image
Save it as a PSD

all you have to do now is
take out that stuff around your track

to do this go to adobe and open your .psd
click on the Marquee tool (m) (Rectangle selection tool)

zoom in to one of the corners of your track and select your track
now go to Image > Crop

Now go to Image > Image Size and change the size of your track to 960 x 960
save it as a 24 bit .tga file and you are ready to Import it into the Armadillo
